Did You Know? The Salvation Army Kettle Tradition Started Back in 1891 in San Francisco.


During an economic downturn in 1891, Salvation Army Captian Joseph McPhee put a crab pot out on Fisherman's Wharf and asked passersby to give what they could to support the poor. Thus began the kettle tradition seen round the world!
